Ajuy Natural Monument is
located on the west coast of Fuerteventura, and is encompassed
by the Betancuria Rural Park, another of the Protected Natural
Areas in Fuerteventura. The main value of this natural
area is that is formed by the oldest rocks in the Canary
Islands, called Basal Complex, consists of
materials sedimentary, igneous and volcanic tell the origin
and formation of Fuerteventura for more than 70 million years. The small town of Ajuy, located in
Puerto de la Peña, is a small town next to a black sand beach,
visited especially majoreros. As a curiosity we will say
that this beach is thearea chosen by Jean de Bethencourt, in
1402, to invade and conquer the island ofFuerteventura.
Typical are also caves Ajuy, situated
on the coast, which is accessed from the beach, taking a
path very well equipped for tourists. in these caves,
pirates and private erstrading with goods of all kinds. We emphasize finally
the House Restaurant Pepin, one of the best on the island, with
specialties in fish and some dishes of the island, such as roast
kid or rich desserts, which is the perfect place to eat after
visiting Ajuy .
To reach Ajuy, we take the road that goes from Pajara and found on
the main road that runs this town.
